This unusual lens is a Nikkor-C 500mm mirror lens, mine is a “C” lens which is multicoated and was made between 1974-1983. These lenses are notoriously difficult to obtain sharp images, but on the Nikon D4 I seem to be getting something right. Here’s a 4 shot panoramic taken from around half a mile away, I thought being at sea level would make the height of the waves a bit more dramatic (this was my second attempt from this location, see Shot of the month June 2020).

I tried two other locations on the same trip but they weren’t as successful. Bottom image, two views of the Nikon D4 camera with rubber bumper on 3Leggedthing tripod, camera settings for the image – EI-1600, F8 (obviously), 1/4000th sec
