Here’s another look behind the curtain from a recent commission.
This was a commission to produce a series of ads to promote attractions at the Auckland Project in Bishop Auckland.
This all started with a recce. Rich Rodgerson, creative dude from White Digital and I travelled down to have a nosey around. This highlighted a few possible hurdles to overome and most importantly gave us a plan of how we would create the images required in the time we would be given. We also worked out it would be better to create certain images after closing time and one of the images would be totally different from the original idea but it would result in a better and stronger image with more impact.
Here’s some kind words from Rich, “Working with Michael has been a pleasure. Although it had been a while since our last photo shoot, his expertise was evident right from the kickoff during the photo recce. Michael provided invaluable advice on how to get the most out of the session, suggesting a setup that resulted in our strongest shots. He worked brilliantly with the models, bringing his experience and maintaining calm under a last-minute constraint, which fortunately turned out to be a false alarm. Michael is fun, professional, and spot-on”.
Also if you look below you can see the White Digital digital press release and other examples of the campaign in the wild.
The photo grid below is the first image set up in front of the entrance gates. We shot to a computer to look at how the images would work with a design overlay using Smart Shooter into Adobe Lightroom.
On the camera/lights side, a Nikon D800e with either a Nikon 50mm f1.4 or an 85mm f1.8 D series, lights with two Godox 360’s attached and a quad bracket inside an Elinchrom quad so it could output twice the power if required. More importantly however, the recycling time of the flash units would be far shorter than using just one flash unit. In the other interior portraits if you look closely you can see an Ice Light which I used as a focusing aid in the darker interiors.
