It’s an on location adventure! I have produced images for Scottish Borders Housing Association for a while, they’re a fantastic organisation and a great bunch of people. I suppose the brief for this commission is relativey simple capture happy images, which can at times be a little bit testing coming up with ideas for the subjects to play out in front of the camera, but over the years I’ve enjoyed every project we’ve ever done, including a short film I created last year. The photo grid below is a selection of pages from the anual reports over the years.
The type of images that’s required range from portraits, lifestyle, architectural and industrial. The images in the grid below are from the most recent of trips, an adhoc portrait set up for some staff profile images, my favourite lens of choice is a Nikon DC 105mm f2 lens, you can read a bit more about this lens here, the lighting was supplied by two Godox 360 units, one through a big brolley and the other a diffuser dome. The other images are my roller bag with two Nikon D4’s and a D3x with a selection of prime lenses 28mm/35mm/50mm/85mm and the 105mm, I find I prefer primes for this type of job fantastic image quality and also a 80-200mm zoom takes care of the longer end of the focal range, as long as the subject isnt too close to the edge of the frame, I also had a SB800 flash gun in just for a bit of fill light.
Here’s a word from Jen Communications Officer from SBHA “Michael has been working with us for more than a decade, and his work has become a key part of our brand identity. We like to say that SBHA is ‘more than bricks and mortar’ – that is, we do much more than simply provide a roof over people’s heads. Michael has helped us to capture that – quickly putting people at ease to allow us to showcase what we do best: supporting people and communities. We are always delighted with the work he does for us .”
