In the classic film The Wizard of Oz when Dorothy ventured into the woods, she was rightly concerned about Lions and Tigers and Bears….Oh my!

Of course I didn’t find any of those but I did find the usual fare of forest managers (and what a nice bunch of guys they are); a harvesting and forwarding machine and a lesser spotted drone of the DJI kind. Of course being a forest manager is more hi-tech than anyone can imagine this day and age, hence the drone and other clever bits of kit. This was the reason for the photography commission in the first place. As usual, I try to get the forester to explain how each piece of kit works then try and construct an image that communicates the message.

In taking equipment on a mission like this, it’s more about what you can carry over sometimes challanging terrain, so a camera backpack is the prefered choice. Lens choice is a catch all approach, 16-35mmVR F4, 24-70mm F2.8, 70-200mmVR2 F2.8 and a 300mmED F4 af lens. Camera choice was two  Nikon D800e, other stuff was a rain cape (just in case) Lee Filters, a couple of ND grads a polariser a right-angled finder, cable release, spare batteries, screen loop and a Nikon 1.4 teleconverter. I dragged along a monopod and a 3legged Thing tripod for the extended panoramas.

As normal it was a fun day hanging out in the forest with some old friends, can’t wait for another trip if I’m lucky.
